DJ Sun

For the past two decades, DJ SUN has contributed to the live soundtrack of Houston, Texas with an aural palette of funk, soul, jazz, disco, early hip-hop and even more modern genres such as trip hop. It is his ability to seamlessly blend those elements and find ways to shape the music to the contours of the many rooms in which he spins records that has made him a Houston standard, a classic. A recent inductee in The Houston Press’ Music Hall of Fame (class of ’14), DJ Sun is charged with the music programming at The Flat. Under his recent watch, The Flat has hosted DJ Day, King Britt, Rich Medina, Vikter Duplaix, Dam-Funk, DJ Nickodemus, Stretch Armstrong, Tony Touch, Toy Selectah, Chancha Via Circuito, and many others. After the success of his debut album One Hundred (Soular Productions), named by The Houston Press “Best Album by a Local Musician” in 2013, DJ Sun has been able to successfully draw on his network to build on the impressive track record started at his seminal RockSteady Mondays (since 2005), which had seen the likes of DJ Maseo (De La Soul), J Boogie, DJ Platurn, DJ Eleven, Aloe Blacc, and many more, between 2005 and 2013. Through his extensive music industry network, built by the success of the radio show Soular Grooves (KPFT 90.1, since ’95) The Flat will present many more quality DJs and producers.
