Booking Music in Houston and Beyond, 2017 – Pt. 2
April was the second busiest month for us (behind December) this year, which made for a wild and crazy jump into Q2. Between weddings, galas, the launch of our spring series at Discovery Green, oh and having a little fun ourselves at our 2nd annual vendor party, all hands were on deck!

Blue Bird Circle Gala – Lyle Lovett

April marked our first show with Lyle Lovett in 2017, at the Blue Bird Circle Clinic’s sell-out gala. Ever the gentleman and consummate performer, Lyle charmed the crowd during his 90 minute performance at the black tie affair, benefiting the pediatric neurological center at Texas Children’s Hospital. What an honor it was to support this fabulous event for such a worthwhile cause.

GCE Vendor Party with Chris Bailey Photography

We had our second annual Gulf Coast Entertainment vendor party with co-host Chris Bailey Photography, and the weather couldn’t have been nicer. The Zydeco Dots performed, and Olivia surprised us all with her championship crawfish cracking skills.

We were honored to help with the Houston Zoo Ball’s entertainment this year. Raising more than $1M for our beloved Zoo, this Aquatic Affair was one to remember with IDT Band charming the crowd during their three hour continuous set.
Super creative jellyfish-inspired florals and decor abounded! Photo cred: Jenny Clifton Antill
Houston Arts Alliance – Audra McDonald
The amazing Audra McDonald sang from the Great American Songbook on this special night. She sprinkled in anecdotes about her own life throughout the performance, drawing us into her personal life, and giving the impression of being at once accessible and other-wordly with her angelic voice.

Discovery Green Spring Series
Leyla McCalla at Discovery Green
If you aren’t taking advantage of the free and family friendly concerts at Discovery Green, you aren’t taking full advantage of being in Houston. The Spring Series this year was sponsored by UH Downtown, and featured some of the most interesting and exciting acts in the country. Both up and coming and established artists, this series has something for everyone!

Museum of Fine Arts Houston – Elevator to the Gallows
GCE beat the heat in June by presenting the fabulous Elevator to the Gallows at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, part of the Jazz on Film series at the museum. What a treat to listen to the “largely improvised” musical score by Miles Davis while taking in the thrilling movie! Our own Sam Austin introduced the movie, putting that Film Major to good use!
I hope you’re enjoying these posts as much as I am! Back tomorrow with the third edition of our 2017 recap.
