To his family’s surprise, a four year-old Phillip Hall sat down at the piano and began playing the hymn, "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms". Without the benefit of a musical score, the young lad’s gift was evident as he rendered a flawless performance. Some thirty-something years later, Phillip continues to amaze. After teaching music for many years in Houston, Hall began playing professionally, performing for Presidents Bush and Clinton, serving as keyboardist for Aretha Franklin, and serving as musical director for productions of Ain’t Misbehavin’ in the Southeast. He and his trio have played many public and private venues and the repertory includes not only standards and pop but also hymns and spirituals.
