Jazz and Swing

There are many types of jazz but it’s almost always easy to listen to, with an unpretentious, spontaneous feeling, and a wide range of emotion. We have included in this category groups (both instrumental and vocal)who can play New Orleans traditional jazz, ragtime, Dixieland, Swing-era, cool-jazz, smooth-jazz and latin jazz.

Sebastian Whittaker

Born in 1966 in Houston, TX and blinded at age 3 by cancer, Sebastian Whittaker began playing drums at age three and has made his study of music a lifelong pursuit. His sound harkens back to the Blue Note label’s heyday in the 50’s and 60’s and bop forms the basis of his style - a combination of Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Elvin Jones, and Tony Williams. For Whittaker, an understanding of the blues is the key to playing jazz.
