Spring is in the Air at Discovery Green

I love Discovery Green. It’s easily in my top 10 places to go in Houston. They put on over 600 events a year and all of them are free and open to the public.

Gulf Coast Entertainment is lucky enough to book live music for the Spring and Fall Thursday Night Concert Series on the Annheiser Busch Stage at Discovery Green, and I get the opportunity to work with some of my favorite bands. All these concerts are generously sponsored by The University of Houston, Downtown, along with support from Saint Arnold Brewing companyCactus Music and 90.1KPFT. Thank you for making these concerts happen!!

This year the series starts Thursday, May 11th and runs every Thursday night until June 29th. Mark your calendars, because this Spring is going to be amazing.

We Kick things on May 11th off with the incomparable Joe Ely w/ Brant & Lainey Croucher to open

On May 18th we welcome Texas Music Legends Del Castillo with local favorites Jalea to open

On May 25th it’s a double header of Houston Music Royalty. The Thundersoul Orchestra and Grady Gaines & The Texas Upsetters.

Next up is Luke Winslow-King and the Kris Lager Band on 06/01. This is your last time to catch Luke Winslow King before he leaves for Europe for 3 months

On June 8th, we have another double header with Leyla McCalla and the Chubby Knuckle Choir. It’s really difficult to put these two in a category. You might just find your new favorite music.

Personally, June 15th is a big night for me. Ian Moore and Tony Vega! I bought Ian’s first record in 1993 at SoundWarehouse and I still listen to it a dozen times a year. He’s been a huge influence. Also, my good friend and Houston guitar hero Tony Vega is opening. Just buy every album he’s put out. They’re all good.

June 22nd is another night of hot Texas guitar playing with the legendary Rosie Flores and always incredible Sparky Parker.

We’re closing out the Spring series on June 29th with some of the best Rockabilly, shredbilly, and roots rock in the country with Jesse Dayton and The Octanes. Bring your dancin shoes!

It’s fun a filled series full of amazing music. We hope to see you there!! Bring your friends, bring your family. Enjoy a cold beer and see what Texas and the Great City of Houston has to offer because we do free and family friendly better than anyone.
